Announcing the Inaugural California Festival

Feb 3, 2023

This November, Rafael Payare and the San Diego Symphony join forces with Gustavo Dudamel and the Los Angeles Philharmonic and Esa-Pekka Salonen and the San Francisco Symphony for the new California Festival: A Celebration of New Music. Running from November 3–19, the two-week festival highlights the collaborative and innovative spirit of California, showcasing today’s most innovative and compelling musical voices.

The festival will feature symphony orchestras, chamber music groups, jazz ensembles, choirs and more, all performing new music as part of their broader season programs. More than 50 organizations from across the state have already confirmed participation, and the full roster of participants will be announced later this year. Each participating organization will curate its own program or project under the festival umbrella, making this massive new survey as eclectic, exciting and kaleidoscopic as it is insightful and thought-provoking.
