Winter 2024 Highlights
Jan 17, 2024Payare begins 2024 on the podium at Orchestre symphonique de Montréal, leading a program featuring Szymanowski’s Violin Concerto no. 1, op. 35 and Mahler’s Symphony No. 7 in E minor (January 16-20). Later in the month, Payare conducts the San Diego Symphony in a program of Mozart works (January 26-27). He leads the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra in pieces by Barber and Strauss on January 31 and February 1.
In February, Payare returns to San Diego Symphony for programs that include the west coast premieres of Altar de bronce, a new work by Mexican composer Gabriela Ortiz, and Mason Bates’s Violin Concerto (February 15-25). Later, Payare paces soprano Barbara Hannigan in an evening that includes Canadian composer Zosha Di Castri’s In the half-light at Orchestre symphonique de Montréal (February 28-29), followed by a program with works by Beethoven and Shostakovich (March 6-10). On March 16, Payare conducts Bal des Enfants – The Adventures of Tío Tigre and Tío Conejo at OSM.
Payare leads a Tchaikovsky/Strauss program at Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich on March 20 and 21. In late March, he paces the San Diego Symphony in a program that includes Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet (March 29-30), before heading to Paris to lead the Orchestre national de France in a bill that includes the world premiere of Bechara El-Khoury’s Concerto for orchestra “Mont Hermon, the Sacred Mountain” (April 18).
