Medici.tv to Stream Three Programs with Music Director Rafael Payare and Orchestre symphonique de Montréal

In 2024, Medici.tv will stream three concerts featuring Orchestre symphonique de Montréal (OSM) and its music director Rafael Payare. The first concert from November 2023 features music by Ginastera, López, Villa-Lobos, and Ravel and is now available to stream on Medici.tv. The OSM and Payare are joined by Spanish pianist Javier Perianes to lead a musical journey through South America with a program that includes the Montreal premiere of Ephemerae, a piano concerto by Jimmy López Bellido. The evening concludes with Ravel’s Boléro. Medici subscribers can watch the entire performance here.       

In the second program, Payare takes to the podium in celebration of OSM’s 90th anniversary to conduct Mahler’s Seventh Symphony on January 16. Admired for the powerful intensity of her playing, violinist Simone Lamsma joins the OSM in a performance of Szymanowski’s Violin Concerto No. 1. Based on the Polish poem “May Night,” the piece exudes a contemplative atmosphere. A nighttime mood also pervades Mahler’s Seventh Symphony right through to its resolution in a luminous finale. On March 6, Medici.tv will livestream a concert featuring Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 8 and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 1. Viennese classicism gives way to the seeds of a ground-breaking new style in the Beethoven, while Shostakovich’s Eighth Symphony summons the devastating drama of wartime, with irony emerging as a response to suffering.
